Dr. Jeff Cornwall, Cofounder of Entrepreneurial Mind and Professor at Belmont University

Dr. Jeff Cornwall has seen it all. As cofounder of The Entrepreneurial Mind, serial entrepreneur and entrepreneurship professor at Belmont University, he's immersed and well-versed in what it means to build a business. Over his 15 years in the blogging business, he's had the chance to see e-learning, content/media, and digital publishing evolve with digitizing content, streaming content, and the addition of blogging and micro-blogging services. His blog, The Entrepreneurial Mind, features site resources, courses on entrepreneurship, and a book co-authored by Dr. Cornwall himself (I own it and it is very good). After mentorship, classes and board meetings are done for the day, his curiosity and knack for problem solving continues through his own ventures. Meet your five minute mentor, Dr. Jeff Cornwall.

Dr. JC: Robo calls and Spam calls on my cell phone. More than half the calls I get on my cell (not an exaggeration) are junk phone calls. Of course they are annoying, but more importantly, they are disruptive.

Dr. JC: The importance of patience. I have learned to be more patient with business ideas. I have learned to be more patient in conversations and discussions. And I have learned to be more patient with my own shortcomings and foibles.

Dr. JC: Silence. I try to find some time to let my brain rest in silence every day. Some people claim it makes them more productive. I find, for me, that it helps me to get my priorities back in order and put things in perspective. It can be a hard thing to do, as my mind often runs in several directions at once. I have to quiet, what Buddha called, the drunken monkeys in my head. Once I do that I find I can deal with whatever comes my way a bit more peacefully and calmly.

Dr. JC: The most popular opinion I offer others is to get out of the way of their own thoughts of what their new business should be and let the market tell them the real business model that is needed. I am amazed at how much entrepreneurs fight me on this. Life is so much easier when you offer folks what they want, rather than try to convince them that they should want what YOU think they should want.

Dr. JC: I try to help those on my team do what they know how to do. My job is to help make them successful. If they can be successful in what they do, the greater goal we all want to reach is much more attainable. Once we achieve the goal, I try to remind myself that they were the main reason for success, not me, and reward them accordingly.
